NAPLAN success at Springfield Gardens in 2024!
NAPLAN reports went home with students in Years 3 & 5 this week and many of our students had great results. It is with lots of pride that our school can celebrate the following results – I have tried not to include too many examples!
Year 3
- Numeracy scores have improved but the real positives can be seen in Year 3 Reading where 59.1% of students are performing in the strong or exceeding range (up from 44.8% in 2023 and 41.6% 2022).
- We now have 13.6% of Year 3 students exceeding in reading, up from 10% last year.
- The average score of students in Year 3 was 382, up from 363 in 2023. This is also 19.3% greater than similar schools!
Year 5
- In Numeracy in 2023, 50% of students needed additional support – in 2024 this is down to 22.2% - less than half!
- In 2024 82% of students experienced medium gain in Numeracy, up 29% on 2023. This result is also 32% higher than similar schools!
- Reading results showed that children performing strongly went from 20.8% in 2023 to 41.4% in 2024!
- Students in the developing range (early reading) went down from 41.7% (2023) to only 20.7% this year.
These are fantastic results to celebrate – we should all be very proud.
NAPLAN is only one indicator of student success and while only Year 3 & 5 students are tested (in primary schools), these results show that not only are our students learning but their success is significant. I can’t wait to see our whole school results in end of year PAT testing.
Any parents interested in discussing their child’s NAPLAN results or our school successes are welcome to make a meeting with me through the school office.
Onward and upward, it is!

In Kinder, we have been learning about Community Helpers which coincides with our visit from Firefighter Todd! We have been exploring the different jobs and roles of Community Helpers within our local community.
“Doctors are for sick patients” – Milly
“Fixers, builders, fix things that are broke on houses” – Abhimanyu
“Firefighters help someone get the fire away” – Luke
“Police come and help to find stuff and take the bad guys to jail” – Aylah
“Bus drivers take us to school and make us happy” – Lucy
“Pilots help us on the plane and fly wings so we can see the world” – Joan
We were very excited to meet Firefighter Todd on Thursday morning who spoke to us about the importance of calling Triple Zero in an emergency and explained how Firefighters keep us safe! Some of us even dressed up in the uniform!
This week Firefighter Todd is visiting our school to teach us about fire safety. Yesterday we learnt about how smoke rises, what to do if there's a fire (Get down low, and go, go, go!) and watched a video about what happens when 000 is called.
Today we learnt about the importance of having a home fire escape plan and knowing where to meet if we have a house fire. Working smoke detectors are super important, so we learnt how to check them to make sure they work.
We're looking forward to learning more about fire safety later in the week.
Friday Fun – 24 Carrot Garden Group
During Friday Fun we started some fire safety, with practising melting a marshmallow on a pretend fire in DIG garden. Then we made damper in the classroom, a little bit messy but fun following the recipe! We look forward to cooking the mixture (which is currently in the freezer) and putting either butter, jam or chocolate in the middle.

2024 Book Week - Reading is Magic
It's that time of the year again when we celebrate Book Week from 19-23 August.
Book week is a time to celebrate reading and encourage our students to exercise their imagination. During Book Week students will have an opportunity to dress-up for our Book Week Assembly - Wednesday 21 August 9.10am-10.00am in the Hall as well as some other exciting learning opportunities. Stay tuned to hear more about our Book Week activities!
Parents and Carers are invited to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee after watching the parade.
The SRC team have been brainstorming some fundraisers and we have decided it would be a great idea to organise a PJ Day to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This will take place on Wednesday 7thAugust. The event will involve a gold coin donation.
Sincerely
Ruby, Carlee and the 2024 SRC team.
