A BIG THANK YOU TO BUNNINGS FOR THE SUPPORT THEY HAVE PROVIDED FOR OUR SUCCULENT GARDEN!
It was great to see parents at our Early Years Assembly today as a number of students were acknowledged for demonstrating our Springfield Values of Respect, Learning and Community. Another group of children received certificates for reaching milestones in the number of nights they have completed home reading. A reminder that it’s 100 nights of reading that earns the reader a trip to BOUNCE but this must be achieved by 30th November.
The next three weeks are very important dates for us – we’ve worked hard all year. We have applied ourselves to our learning, we’ve practiced and reviewed, and all early indications are, that we’ve done quite well academincally this year. Student reading skills seem to have improved. Student understanding of phonics and how sounds work is laying a strong foundation in spelling as we also improve our writing ability.
Good attendance and a genuine commitment to a best effort from every child is absolutely essential in ensuring their level of understanding is captured and celebrated – parents are asked to reinforce these messages, to encourage students to attend school and to do their best. Regardless of the final data I would like to share that I am so proud of all our students. Especially the effort they have made in Playberry, our handwriting alone has improved enormously and is a credit to students and teachers. Please be sure to have a look at your students’ workbooks when you get the chance.
Once testing is completed, I will share with the community, and we will celebrate as we move towards the end of the school year. As I close today’s newsletter piece, I would like to invite parents concerned about class placements for next year to contact me, either through the school office or via email. While I will not discuss individual teachers, I am keen to hear from you if you feel you have information about your child’s learning needs that will support us to make the best class placement possible in setting your child up for a great 2025.

We have had a great start to Term 4 in Kinder O’Neill. This term, our focus is ‘Caring for Living Things’ as we are developing the Kinder Garden in the Adventure Playground. The Kinder Garden space will have plants which we will care for and a mud kitchen to develop our social skills and creativity. Todd has been helping us to build a new fence in the area which each student helped to paint! It was very exciting to come back to school after the holidays and see the fence being built. We are all very grateful for Todd’s help!
Last week, we collaborated to create a piece of art which represented what we would like the Kinder Garden to look like with collage flowers.
What should we grow in the Kinder Garden?
“Purple and pink flowers” – Abhimanyu
“Rainbow flowers” – Joan
“Seeds to grow flowers” – Summer
“Carrots” – Brantley-Jay
“Strawberries” – Luke
“Fairy garden” - Sophia
This term, we’re all making our own individual zine to showcase our learning for our last term this year. So far, we’ve designed a cover, identified our school strengths, set goals (English, maths and social) and a drew a self-portrait. We discussed where our facial elements are and tried to draw lightly (whisper drawing) so we could erase errors easily.
Tasmanian Museum Art Gallery Banner
Students from across the school were invited to participate in the creation of a schools TMAG banner this year. The theme was ‘To the Max’. It was displayed on the fence next to the TMAG entrance, and will soon be returned to us at school to put up. The upper primary students mentored the prep students, to support them in painting. The school was proud to display such an excellent piece of work!

NAPLAN 2025
Students will be sitting NAPLAN between 12 and 24 March 2025.
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
NAPLAN has been held in March since 2023, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year. These results can then be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.
Why NAPLAN is conducted online
NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results.
One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do.
Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN.
Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging.
Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.
