Anyone looking to be rescued?
It was a fantastic day, last Tuesday, when the WESTPAC rescue helicopter visited school, landing on the school oval, sharing with us their jobs and giving us the opportunity to look over the helicopter.
Students assembled on the school oval from 9:15am to see the helicopter approach, do a quick lap to check out the situation and then land on the oval before talking to students and then starting the chopper up and taking off again!
While it was quite loud, it was also very informative. The pilot, the policeman and the ambulance officer all shared with us their roles, explaining how they can be called out to rescues all over the state, particularly in the Summer/Christmas season when things are busiest. WESTPAC representatives attended as an opportunity to build awareness of this fantastic resource. Fundraising from Crazy Hair Day on Friday was donated to support this initiative.
Students and staff at Springfield Gardens would like to thank the staff from WESTPAC and the crew for visiting us – it was definitely something we will remember!
A very big thank you to Todd for organising the Westpac Rescue Helicopter!

Two highlights of Term 4 so far have been our session with the 24 Carrot Kitchen Garden specialist, and the visit from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter team.
After some of the Preps became “cheffies” and made delicious Garden Pizza while the rest of the class went exploring in the Jim Bacon Reserve and School Garden, they reflected on their time in the kitchen and garden by painting their favourite part and describing it with a couple of sentences.
“I loved watering the plants” – John
“I love the butterfly” – Shanaya
“I liked eating the bread” – Joban
“I love the food, it was yum” – Nolah
“I loved taking food to everyone” – Jesse
“I liked the kitchen, but I didn’t like the flowers on the pizza” - Ronin
“I loved the food and the bread” – Lina
“My favourite part of my day is when we went to look for poo” – Kit
“I love the dog poop. It was fabulous” – Oliver & Noah
“I love cooking. Yum! It was bread” – Loki
“I liked the poo. It was funny” – Jaece
“I love the Kitchen Garden” – Malaki
“I liked the garden food. It was good” – Elijah
“I love the butterfly” – Matilda
“I like the food. It was so yummy” – Oakleigh
Also, last Tuesday the Westpac Rescue Helicopter landed on the oval and the whole school heard about the important work the team does, locating people and winching them to safety if needed. The Preps were amazed to see how much gear the helicopter could carry and got to have a close look inside at all the controls. What a great experience!
It was 1/2A’s turn in kitchen garden last week and we had so much fun. A small group of cooks helped Kate, the kitchen specialist, make green pizza in the MWEW room while the rest of us headed outside to explore the garden and get rid of the pesky weeds.
Maddie: Hunter is going to try the pizza.
Mackenzie: Was it yummy? He looks like he likes it.
Hunter: I do like it!
Crazy Hair Day Fundraiser for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Last week on Thursday and Friday we did a crazy hair day to raise money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Across the school, we raised $104.20. We would like to thank everyone who donated, it is highly appreciated.
Sincerely,
