Newsletter 14 February
From the Principal
One of the best things to hear from students is how they want the year to go. What they want to achieve and what goals they are setting for 2025.
I know Ms Marshalls 5/6 class have already written letters to their future selves – which they’ll open at the end of the year to see what they have achieved. Many of our students – across all grades - have indicated an interest in a leadership position. SRC roles, Sustainability Crew, Chess Captains, just to name a few.
Over the next week, our Daily Fitness Leaders will be applying for their positions, they will be selected, and the training will start. Most of the time with leadership roles – it’s not so much the focus skill – like PE that’s important. It’s the social skills required to stand up and lead. It’s the personal organisation required to be on time every day and know what to do. It’s also the willingness to get in and have a go. It’s our aim as a teaching team this year to have as many students as possible taking on leadership roles and, we’ll be helping them as much as we can!
Being a leader is also about being a part of our school, contributing towards the way it works – belonging. When children belong and feel they contribute, they are happier, they come to school more often and they achieve more.
Please encourage your children to consider a leadership role, even a small one, in their own classroom if they’re not quite ready for a whole school role. Have a talk to them about what positions are available and what might suit them. Most importantly, encourage them to have a go – they’ll never know if they don’t try and who knows we may even discover a few future world leaders growing up in our midst.

Welcome to our new Teachers for 2025

Hello everyone! My name is Georgia Pears, and I’m excited to be joining Springfield Gardens as the new Year 3/4 teacher. While this is my first full-time teaching role, I have spent years working in classrooms and developing my passion for education.
I love creating engaging and supportive learning environments where every student can thrive. Outside of school, I enjoy reading mystery books, spending time with my family, and cuddling my two dogs. I’m looking forward to getting to know the students, families, and staff at Springfield Gardens and becoming part of this wonderful community!
Feel free to stop by and say hello—I’m always happy for a chat!

Hey everyone!
My name is Nic de Paula, and this is my first year as a classroom teacher! While this is my first time in this role, I’ve been working as a relief teacher for a while now. I absolutely love teaching, and I’m always learning new things along the way – which is honestly one of the best parts of the job.
I’m originally from Brazil, so naturally, I’m a huge soccer fan! I also like reading history books and watching movies.
There’s nothing that makes me happier than seeing students thrive in a learning environment where they feel safe and supported. This is what I strive to do every single day.
Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi everyone!
My name is Carol Marshall, and this is my first year at Springfield Gardens Primary School after moving to Hobart in the summer holidays from Launceston. I have taught in various schools in Launceston for the past 20 years and am very much looking forward to the year ahead here with my lovely class.
I have two children- both now in their early 20- and a very cute but mischievous dog called Annie.
PaKT
Do you want to have some fun one-on-one time with your child at school?
If so, the Parents and Kids Together (PaKT) program is for you!
PaKT is a fun craft-based program for children aged 6-12 years and their parents & carers. Parents & carers work one on one with their child to create something special together, mainly from recycled materials! There is no need to have art or craft experience to succeed in this program – you’ll just need a willingness to have a go and maybe get a little bit messy!
Families also get to have group discussions about personal safety, emotions, communication, and much more 😊
The PaKT program is free, and healthy snacks are provided!
In term 1, families with children in grades 3 and 4 at Springfield are invited to join the PaKT program. PaKT runs once a week for seven weeks and is held on the school grounds during school time.
If you would like to be in this program, please contact the school office or contact PaKT directly on 0428 803 565.
But be quick as there are only 8 places available!
