Health and Physical Education

At Springfield Gardens students are learning movement skills, concepts and strategies that enable them to participate in a range of physical activities confidently and competently. They develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to support them to be resilient, to develop a strong sense of self, to build and maintain satisfying relationships and to make health-enhancing decisions in their health and physical activity.

Our focus areas are

  • Learning through play which supports students to be physically active and develop skills such as persistence, negotiation, problem solving, planning and cooperation.
  • Active play and minor games which includes imaginative play, small group games, minor games and lead up games.
  • Fundamental movement skills which provides the students with opportunities to practise and develop the following skills: Locomotor and non-locomotor skills: • rolling, balancing, sliding, jogging, running, leaping, jumping, hopping, dodging, galloping, skipping, floating and moving the body through water to safety. Object control skills: • bouncing, throwing, catching, kicking and striking.
  • Games and sports which build on all the other focus areas and includes invasion games, net and wall games, striking, fielding games and target games, gymnastics, expressive movement and dance.
